9.25am    ROLE OF EDUCATIONAL SUPERVISOR (Dr R Hunt)
– Understanding the difference between the clinical and educational supervisor role
– Understand the difference between formative and summative assessment
– Overview of different teaching and learning methods
– Preparing and conducting a good educational supervision session
– Making the best use of the Curriculum and e-portfolio

10.30am  ASSESSMENT ROLE (Dr S Watt)
– Identifying, understanding and addressing personal strengths and weaknesses as an
Educational Supervisor
– Reflect on their own capabilities and understand the trainee in a context rather than as a                      task
– Feel confident in assessing their trainees’ learning needs
– Role of ARCP and Supervisor’s report

11.15am     KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS OF EDUCATIONAL SUPERVISORS (Prof S Carley)

11.45am    OBJECTIVE SETTING (Dr T Howling)
– Helping the trainee to set clear goals
– Acknowledging the trainee’s agenda, priorities and their impact on their performance
– Understand the importance of the educational supervisor in the career development for
trainees

12.15pm    FEEDBACK (Mr D Johnson)
– Understanding the importance of feedback
– Giving effective feedback to trainees in a way which encourages learning
– Appreciate the importance of feedback and learn how to use it effectively

12.45pm    Lunch

1.30pm      TRAINEE WITH DIFFICULTIES (Dr G Burrows & Dr M Taylor)
– Defining the problem
– Understand the complexities of a trainee in difficulty
– HENW flowchart for managing a trainee with difficulties
-Understanding the Trusts support network
– Feel confident in applying different strategies for managing trainees in these                                           circumstances
– Feel confident in applying different strategies to support the trainee who is excelling

3.00pm      SUPPORTING THE TRAINEE (Dr M Phillips)
– How to deal with Critical Incidents
– How to support a trainee through them

3.30pm      Understanding the importance of contributing to the quality assurance of training and                          HENW processes involved in providing excellent training (?????????)

4.00pm      Close
